High Five Charity Auction nets windfall for Pocono charities

Five Pocono charities were the clear winners of Tuesday evening’s High Five Charity Auction at Desaki Restaurant in Swiftwater.

The auction generated at least $45,000 through the sale of commercial properties and donated items. Beneficiaries included the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Pocono Services for Families and Children, the Salvation Army and the United Way.

Among the properties sold was the Carlton House on Main Street in Stroudsburg. Six of the 21 properties on the auction block were sold with the sale of another four or five the subject of negotiations.

The three other properties auctioned were a commercially zoned building on about one acre on Route 447 in East Stroudsburg, for $50,000, four undeveloped acres on Warner Road in Pocono Township, for $50,000 and 21 acres with dilapidated cottages on Gravel Creek Road in East Stroudsburg, for $100,000.

The Carlton House, Route 447 building and the cottages in East Stroudsburg were all distressed properties.

Sellers and buyers each donated the greater of $5,000 or 10 percent of the sale to the organization of their choice.
